ROBERT LEE MASSEY - ADALINE FOLSOM

3H(M).  ROBERT LEE MASSEY, b. 10 November 1837 in Stewart County, Georgia to Celey and Wiley Massey. Died January 1911. reports of his burial say it was in Grady County, Cairo Cemetery. Baptized 5 May 1889 at Evergreen Baptist Church near Dixie, Georgia.

According to Volume 3, page 433 of the Roster of Confederate Soldiers of Georgia, Robert L. Massey was in Co. A, 29th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry Army, C. S. A. of Tennessee, Thomas County, Thomasville, Georgia under Gen. James E. Johnston. Enlisted as a private 14 September 1861. Surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina on 26 April 1865.

Robert Massey has been described as eccentric. It is reported that he hoarded his money and buried it at various places on his property rather than put it in a bank. Supposedly, some has never been found.

m1. ADALINE FOLSOM, 6 November 1866 in Thomas County, Georgia. Addie was born 13 January 1846 in brooks County, Georgia to Thomas Rodgers Folsom, and died October 1886. (14th) in Brooks County. She is buried at Evergreen Cemetery near Dixie, Georgia (MG). She was a Baptist.

According to the records in the clerk's office in Brooks County Courthouse in Quitman, Georgia, Adaline Massey bought from Thomas Folsom 350 acres of land in 1869. Other records of her purchasing land was not found, however, there were records of her selling 891 acres of land, so it is assumed that some of her land was acquired through inheritance on death of her father. Of the 891 acres of her land sold, the last 200 acres were sold partly jointly, her and her husband, and partly by her husband alone after her death as he had been appointed guardian of her estate. All these land parcels were in Brooks County, Georgia.

m2. Mary L. Walker on 24 February 1898 in Brooks County, Georgia.

Following the marriage license of Robert Lee Massey to Adaline Folsom will be the military service papers of Robert L. Massey.
