A3. LUTHER CLEVELAND CHASTAIN, JR was born10 March 1921
in Thomasville, Georgia. He attended school in Thomas-
ville and graduated from Thomasville High School in
June 1940.

L.C. enlisted in the National Guard in 1938, and in
the Army in 1940, for a year and a half. In January
1942 L.C. joined the U.S. Navy, trained in Norfolk,
Virginia, and was stationed on submarine patrol in
England for over one year. Then in Jacksonvillle,
Florida he became instructor at automatic pilot and was
honorably discharged from the Navy on 30 September
1945, at the rank of First Class Petty Officer, or
First Class Aviation Electrician. L.C. also won the
Good Conduct Ribbon, European Trade Ribbon, and the
Pre-Pearl Harbor Ribbon. In 1947, he rejoined the
National Guard and in 1962 retired from service with
22 years as a First Sergeant.
He was baptized at First Baptist Church in Thomasville
on 7 October 1962. During his life he has worked for
Chastain Transfer Lines, Colonial Stores, Federal Se-
curity Agency, U.S. Public Health Service, the Rail-
road, Davis Water Meter Company, Columbia Baking Com-
pany and Southern Sand Company. In 1973 he became
owner of Southern Sand Company.
L.C. has also been a member of the Thomasville Touch-
down Club and on its board of directors. He was a
Mason for ten years, a member of American Legion Post
31 for three years, BPOE for 30 years and VFW for 20
years.

m. Eloise Vera Brinson on 26 June 1948 in Grady County,
Georgia. Eloise was born 31 December 1931 in Ochlock-
nee, Georgia to John Heeth Brinson and Lillian Ful-
ford. She was baptized at First Baptist Church in
Thomasville 19 March 1944. She attended school in
Ochlocknee, Meigs and Thomasville High School.
She has been a member of the Talisman Garden Club
for ten years, the American Legion Post 31 Auxillary
for three years and the Eleven O’clock Club of BPOE
for fourteen years. She was a pink lady at Arch-
bold Memorial Hospital for three years and has been
an active P.T.A. member every year any of her child-
ren were in school.
For the past three years, Eloise has been Vice Pres-
ident of Southern Sand Company in Thomasville.

Services for Eloise Brinson Chastain of Thomasville are at 4 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2007, at First Baptist Church Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Dan Spencer will officiate and interment is in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers are Nathan Doane, Matt Johns, Steve Parrish, Greg Fleetwood, Tony Fleetwood, Jeff Fleetwood, Donnie Brinson, Ronnie Parrish, Roger Stewart, Johnny Parrish, Jimmy Nail, Mack McGuyrt, Tommy Williams and James Fleetwood.

Mrs. Chastain died Tuesday, April 17 at Archbold Medical Center. Born Dec. 31, 1931 in Thomas County, she was a daughter of the late John Heath Brinson and Lillian Fulford.

On June 26, 1948, in Cairo, she married Luther Cleveland (L.C.) Chastain Jr.. He preceded her in death on March 28, 2003. A lifetime resident of Thomasville, she and her husband owned Southern Sand and L.C. Chastain Sand &Gravel until retirement.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Garden Club and the Eleven O’Clock Club.

Survivors include daughters, Connie Chastain Lambert and husband Stan of Kennesaw, Phyllis Chastain Nail and husband Jimmy, Vicki Chastain McGuyrt and husband Mack all of Thomasville; son, Luther Cleveland (Chip) Chastain III of Thomasville; grandson, Ryan Dixon Smith and wife Carrie of Kennesaw; granddaughters, Dana Smith Johns and husband Matt, Kristin Nail Doane and husband Nathan; grandson, James Edward (Jaime) Nail of Thomasville; granddaughters, Amanda Marie Stringer of Marietta, Whitney Lanier Smith of Kennesaw; great-grandson, Jarret Adam Doane of Thomasville, Ryan Dixon Smith Jr. of Kennesaw; great-granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Smith of Kennesaw; brother, Donald Brinson and wife Jean of Thomasville; sister, Jeanette Parrish and husband Carlton of Thomasville; sisters, Joan Fleetwood and husband James, Dianne Williams and husband Tommy all of Thomasville; and her beloved dog and best friend, Floyd.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Chastain Nail. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., today at the funeral home. — Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home

B1. CONSTANCE ELOISE CHASTAIN, born in Thomasville,
Georgia at Archbold Memorial Hospital on 4 Octo-
ber 1950. Connie was baptized at First Baptist
Church in Thomasville, Georgia on 7 October 1962.
Connie attended schools in Thomasville, graduating
from Thomasville High School in June 1968. She
trained as a dental assistant in Thomasville, atten-
ded Birdwood Junior College, and then worked in
Atlanta for the telephone company. She now works
for the state of Georgia as a dental assistant.
m. Dana Scott Smith on 20 June 1970 at First Bap-
tist Church in Thomasville. Scott was born 8
June 1951 at Emory University Hospital in At-
lanta to Marjorie Starnes and Charles Dixon
Smith. He graduated from Clarkston High School
in Clarkston, Georgia and attended the University
of Georgia Extension Center. He was baptized
at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Seattle,
Washington. He has worked as computer operator
at Flowers Baking Company, and at Sunnyland.
Scott is presently Vice President of Southern
Sand Company in Thomasville.

C1. Ryan Dixon Smith, b. 12 January 1972. He attends Garrison Pilcher School. He was born at Arch-
bold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville.

B3. VICKI DAHLENE CHASTAIN, born in Thomasville, Georgia
at Archbold Memorial Hospital on 17 November 1955.
Vicki attended Thomasville schools and graduated
from Thomasville High School in June 1973 with
honors. She attended Georgia Southern College
and Valdosta State College where she graduated
Magna Cum Laude in 1978. She has taught elementary
school for a year and a half. Vicki was baptized
at First Baptist Church in Thomasville on 16 Oct-
ober 1966.
m. John Leon Stringer, at the First Baptist Church on
19 April 1978 in Thomasville. He is the son
of Mary Turner and Joseph William Stringer and
was born 1 December 1953 at Archbold Memorial
Hospital in Thomasville. He graduated from
Central High School in 1971 and graduated from
Birdwood Junior College in 1973 with an Asso-
ciate Degree in Business. He was baptized at
Metcalf Methodist Church in Metcalf, Georgia.
John has been plant manager for Gold Kist Corp-
oration, computer operator for Sunnyland, and
is presently supervisor of plant operations
for Metcalf Lumber Company.

B2. PHYLLIS GAIL CHASTAIN, born in Thomasville, Georgia
at Archbold Memorial Hospital on 21 December 1952.
Phyllis was baptized at First Baptist Church in
Thomasville and graduated from Thomasville
High School in June 1971. She has been a teacher’s
aid for the Thomas County School system in the
Special Education Department at Southwestern State
Hospital for two years.
m. James Edward Nail at First Baptist Church in
Thomasville on 6 July 1974. Jimmy was born 7
May 1947 in Metter, Georgia to June Harrington
and William Edward Nail. He graduated from
Reidsville High School in Reidsville, Georgia
and attended Brewton Parker College in Mt. Vernon, Georgia. He was baptized at First Baptist Church
in Brunswick, Georgia. Jimmy has been a line-
man for Southern Bell for ten years.

B4. LUTHER CLEVELAND CHASTAIN III, “Chip” was born
in Thomasville, Georgia at Archbold Memorial Hos-
pital on 31 July 1962. He has attended Thomas-
ville Schools and is presently a student at
Thomasville High School. He is also a member
of the THS varsity football team, Key Club, and
the Thomasville Music and Drama Troupe.
Chip was baptized at First Baptist Church in
Thomasville on 17 June 1973.
